William H. Hollinger Hall of Fame
A member of Hiram's varsity tennis for four straight years, Winford was much more than just a one sport athlete. Active in basketball for three seasons and football for another year, he led an active schedule during his four years here. As captain of the tennis team for three of his four years, he guided the team through several tough seasons and was awarded the gold tennis ball pin in his senior year.
In addition to his activities on the court and the field, Winford was very much involved in other campus organizations. He served as sports editor for The Advance, president of Theta Phi and Theta Alpha Phi, class president, and authored and directed two winning plays for an annual one-act play competition.
Since leaving Hiram, he has been active in the affairs of the College of Wooster, and, as of his induction, an emeritus professor of speech and theater at Wooster. Also a 27-year member of the Wooster Rotary Club, he was secretary of the Jekyll Island Lions Club and enjoys golf, fishing, and his work as a session member of the Presbytarian Church.
