Serving as co-captain of the football team his junior year, Jim excelled in sports all year round. Four years each on the football and baseball teams, and two years as a basketball player showed that Jim was an outstanding athlete and individual. During his junior year he was named to the third-team All Ohio Conference squad.

In addition to his athletic involvements, Jim, was very active in campus activities. He was a class officer for four years, serving as president of his class during his senior year. He was also a member of Kappa Sigma Pi and the Black Key Society, and eventually was named to member·ship in Outstanding Young Men in America.

He went on to receive his Master's from Akron University and to teach and coach at Stow High School and Erwin Junior High before returning to Hiram as an admissions counselor. For two years, Jim served as treasurer of the Ohio Association of College Admissions Counselors and became Director of Hiram Admissions in 1972. As of his induction, he was the manager of the Boston Hills Country Club.
