Ries distinguished himself as an athlete on both the basketballĀ and baseball teams. As a guard on the court, JoeĀ started for the Terriers during four consecutive seasons, serving asĀ co-captain for two of those years and guiding the team to the two bestĀ seasons in Hiram's history up to that point.
During his four seasons with the Hiram baseball team, Joe was named toĀ the All-Ohio Athletic Conference First-Team his senior year and twice
led the team in NCAA Mid-East Regional competition from the first baseĀ position. On campus, he was named Most Valuable player for the Hiram
Nine and was awarded the "Terrier Award" his senior year forĀ outstanding athlete of the year.
As of his induction, Ries was employed by the Palm Beach County School System, Joe servesĀ as Chair of the Mathematics Department at Jefferson Middle School. HeĀ has also coached baseball in Palm Beach for five years, taking his team toĀ the county finals four times and leading them to a championship twice.
He also serves on the Board of Directors for the Lake Swan Camp andĀ coaches soccer and basketball for the West Palm Beach and Palm Springs
Recreational program.
