Baird was a standout performer for the Terriers on the gridiron, hardwood, golf course and tennis court. Co-captain of the 1947 football team, his storybook reception of Jim Sponseller's desperation end zone pass against Caterbury College to salvage a 6-6 tie will long be remembered by Hiram football fans of the late 1940s.
A member of the Phi Gamma Epsilon and the Black Key, he demonstrated his enthusiasm for extracurricular activities other than athletics.Â
He continued his education endeavors by earning his Bachelor of Law and Juris Doctorate Degrees from the University of Akron. His 1975 judicial appointment by the governor to the Medina County Common Pleas County, where he had been the city's assistant law director, highlighted his career. Â
His participation in the cancer fund, Chamber of Commerce, Ohio State and Medina County Bar Associations, as well as the American Judicial Society, made him a prominent citizen of Medina.
