Catherine (DiOrio) Reesman is a 1992 graduate of Hiram College and was a three-sport athlete (soccer, softball and track). She was a varsity letter winner in both softball and soccer, but was known more for her role in the creation of the women’s soccer program at Hiram.

Reesman played an integral role in and is one of those considered to be the “founders” of the women’s soccer program at the College. She served as a team co-captain in 1991 during the program’s first season of existence in varsity competition. Prior to women’s soccer becoming a varsity sport at Hiram in 1991, Reesman led the women’s soccer “club” in all aspects from scheduling opponents to “recruiting” players to take part in the games. Leading up to that inaugural season, Reesman aided the athletic department in hiring the programs first-ever head coach (Bruce Knight), as well as submitted ideas for uniforms. Once it was determined that Hiram would sponsor a varsity women’s soccer program, the first team consisted of 18 players and included athletes from other sports such as track and softball. They played opponents that included now NCAA Division I Cleveland State University.

In addition to being a member of the soccer club and team, Reesman was also involved in other student organizations on campus which included the Rugby Club, Delta Chi Lambda, Education Club and Choir, and was an actress in the Drama Club.

After graduation, Reesman went on to earn her Master’s in Education, as well as receiving her Administrative Certification in Education from Central Washington University. She has held several teaching and administrative positions in the Seattle area and in Northeast Ohio. As of her induction, Reesman was the supervisor of special education in the Westerville City School District and working on her doctorate in education from Youngstown State University. Reesman resides in Columbus, Ohio.
