Rice's trademark both on the basketball and tennis courts was his sleek foot speed. As a guard on the basketball court, his ability to go from baseline-to-baseline would enable him to fit in with today's faster paced game. His polished style and smooth swing made him one of the best Terrier tennis players of his time.

He was an active member of Phi Gamma Epsilon fraternity and although his studies were interrupted by a call to the service, he completed his degree in economics eight years after entering college, a true indication of the attitude that exemplified his efforts in everything that he has undertaken.

Further evidence of the latter is in his then-current position as Vice President of the Lodi Lumber Company, for which he at one time made deliveries and yard sales.

Involvement in the Lodi Rotary Club, including a previous tenure as president, and 16 years of service to the Medina County School Board are but two ways in which he has contributed to the enrichment of his community.
