William H. Hollinger Hall of Fame
Being the captain of Hiram's varsity golf team and No. 1 player of the links squad for three years begins the list of Bob's involvement in Hiram's athletic activities. In golf, Bob lettered in 1939, '40 and '41. In 1940 and '41, he taught golf at Hiram for Physical Education credits and served as student assistant to the golf team. Bob attributes his success at golf to the hours of practice on the Squire House lawn using buckeyes instead of golf balls. In other areas, Bob lettered in varsity track for two years and also competed in intramural football and basketball.
While at Hiram, Bob also gained prominence in extra-curricular activities by being treasurer of the senior class, appearing in dramatic productions, and belonging to the YMCA cabinet.
Since leaving Hiram, Bob served in the U.S. Navy as a Commander in the Pacific Fleet during and immediately following WWII. He served at the Pentagon and Joint Military Staff in London before retiring from the military. He holds a M.A. in Public Administration and served as an Administrative officer in the Seattle-King County Health Dept. for 12 years. After retiring for good, Bob, as of his induction, was a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame luncheon Club, a member of the Retired Executives Club of Canton and an avid golfer in the Senior League in the Canton Area.
