Danny Young had a standout four-year career on the men’s basketball team (1988-92) as a student-athlete at Hiram. He was a four-year letter winner as a guard/forward and currently ranks sixth on the Terrier all-time scoring list with 1,452 career points.
Young was a two-time team captain (1990-92) and ended his career as a two-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference player, including earning second-team accolades as a senior. As a senior, Young earned “OAC Player of the Week” honors and was also named the “National Division III Player of the Week” in early December. As of his induction, Young was the basketball program’s sixth all-time leading scorer and was tied for second all-time in number of games played (100), fifth in field goals made (483), eighth in three-pointers attempted (263), and fifth in triples made (132).
During his days on campus, Young was also an active member of the African-American Student Union and worked in the admission office. Following graduation in 1992, Young pursued a career in education and has served in a variety of roles in the field ranging from teacher and guidance counselor to his current position, as of his induction, as principal at Shaker Heights Middle School. He is also, as of his induction, the head men’s basketball coach at Shaker Heights High School.
Young has been an educator with the Shaker Heights School District for the past 20 years and is very active in his church affairs as both an elder and youth counselor. Young resides in Shaker Heights, Ohio.
