Niehaus was a seven-time PAC Champion, winning the 400m title four years in a row from 1974 to 1977, and was undefeated in conference dual meet competition in that event. He also anchored three conference champion 4x400 relay teams during those years.
An all-around athlete, Ed was also an All-PAC performer in both cross country, soccer, and basketball, and ended his Hiram career with 12 varsity letters. In basketball he was a standout, earning all-conference honors in his senior season, and in track, where he won the quarter-mile at the PAC championships. He received the Campbell Award in 1977 as Hiram’s Male Student-Athlete of the Year, and upon graduation he was awarded a prestigious NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship to further his education.
Away from the athletic fields and running track, Ed was active as treasurer of the Phi Gam Fraternity, with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and as a dining hall student manager. As of his induction, Niehaus was a Pastor at the Echo Lake Baptist Church in West Millford, New Jersey where he enjoys working with youth groups.
