William H. Hollinger Hall of Fame
While at Hiram, Paul was a four-year letter winner in baseball and also earned a varsity letter in basketball. He was an All-President's Athletic Conference first team selection as a pitcher in 1988 and 1989 and was the PAC's Most Valuable Player in 1989. In 1988 he led the conference with five wins, in strikeouts with 48, and had a league leading ERA of 1.83. During his MVP season in 1989, Matt duplicated that feat, again leading the conference with 5 wins, 61 strike outs, and an ERA of 1.88. He served as the squad's captain and also received the school's Donald M. Campbell Memorial Award in 1989 as Hiram's outstanding male student-athlete.
Since graduating from Hiram, Paul has perviously served as a teacher in the Conneaut and Kirtland school districts and, as of his induction, is an assistant principle in the Kirtland schools. He has also spent time coaching football, basketball, and baseball.
