While at Hiram, Wally distinguished himself on the football field as an outstanding player. As the starting quarterback for two years, he was the
leading passer and Most Valuable Player in 1951, setting records in attempted passes and completions. While it is common today, in the early 1950's Wally routinely threw 60-yard passes for completions. On the defense, his talents were applied as a deep safety. Wally also spent two years on Hiram's basketball team.
After leaving Hiram, while in the U.S. Air Force, Wally was signed by Paul Brown of the Cleveland Browns and was scheduled to attend the 1954 training camp. The Air Force had other ideas, sending Wally to Germany instead. Unable to capitalize on the opportunity to play professional football, the two ensuing years in Germany were well spent playing football for the Air Force team which won the German League in 1955.
As a student at Hiram, Wally was a member of Kappa Sigma Pi and Head Resident of East Dormitory. As of his induction, Kosinski was an Associate Professor of History at John Carroll University and was in the process of finishing a book about the outbreak of the Second World War in September 1939.
