Stumph was an outstanding wrestler and member cross country team fromĀ 1982-1986. A three-time NCAA Division III All-American and three-time
All-President's Athletic Conference selection in the 150 lbs.Ā weight class as a wrestler.Ā  In 1985, he achieved an outstanding overall record of 30-2 and placed third in NCAA Championships. StumphĀ also won a goldĀ and a bronze medal at the 1985 Augustine Briseno Tournament in Mexico City,Ā Mexico. He was also selected as the Most Improved Runner on Hiram's crossĀ country team that same year. He was honored for his athletic performance byĀ being selected as the 1985 Donald M. Campbell Award recipient.

As of his induction, Stumph was the principal of Cardinal High School in Middlefield, Ohio.
