A member of Hiram's varsity basketball team for four years, Dolan was voted the 1956 Defensive Player of the Year. He served as team co-captain in 1956, 1957, and 1959 and was voted the team's most valuable player in both the 1957 and the 1959 season. He received All-Ohio Conference and All Ohio honors in 1959.

Besides basketball, Dolan played three years of varsity baseball, was a member of the H-Club, a member.and officer of Phi Gamma Epsilon, and acted as an admission assistant during his years as a student at Hiram.

As of his induction, Dolan was the owner of a commercial painting company in South Euclid, Dolan and continued his basketball career as a coach. He has received numerous coaching awards, including most recently the 1987 Greater Cleveland Conference Coach of the Year award. He is a member of the Ohio Basketball Coaches Association, the Western Reserve Coaches Association anp the Greater Cleveland Coaches Association.
