Barr was a very versatile athlete. Robert was captain of the football and track team his senior year. Robert's senior year he was Honorable Mention All-Ohio in football. Robert led the basketball team in scoring and was second high point man in track his senior year.
Barr also distinguished himself in non-athletic activities at Hiram as a campus leader. He was class president his junior year and served on the student council.
After college, he taught and coached at Geneva High School. He had a long career as an industrial safety director and personnel officer. Maintaining an interest in athletics, Barr officiated high school football and basketball games for over 20 years. Retired upon his induction, Barr was a member of the zoning board of the city of Geneva, Ohio, his hometown.
