A 1981 graduate, Perry participated in field hockey, basketball, and softball.
The fall weather found Gretchen competing as a member of the Hiram field hockey team where she was named the team's most valuable player in both her sophomore and senior years. Winter quarter, Gretchen was a member of the Hiram basketball team, and in the spring, Gretchen was a talented and accomplished softball player, earning MVP honors in her junior year. For her lengthy record of athletic achievement, Gretchen was honored as the recipient of the Helen M. Petroskey award, annually given to the female athlete of the year.
As of her induction, Gretchen resided in Bay Village, Ohio and was taking time away from her teaching career to care for her two sons, Scott, age 3, and Colin, 1.
