Edwards was a three-time NCAA Division III All-American, placing sixth in the 100m event at the national meet in 1978, and taking second place in the 100m and fourth place in the 200m in 1979. Recognized as the finest sprinter in the history of Hiram Track and Field, Bill was a nine-time PAC Champion, winning both the 100m and 200m events for three consecutive years in 1977, 1978, and 1979, and he also anchored the winning 4x100m relay teams in each of the those seasons.
He was named the PAC Most Valuable Performer in 1978. His time of 21.8 seconds in the 200m, set during the 1979 PAC Championships, stood as the conference meet record for over 30 years. Edwards received the Campbell Award in 1979 as Hiram’s Male Student-Athlete of the Year.
Bill earned a doctor of ministry degree in 1991 and, as of his induction, served as a Senior Associate of the Division of Homeland Ministries in the Center for Congregational Growth and Vitality.
