A long-tenured assistant coach for the Terrier football program, Lawrence (Larry) Rice served in many capacities with the team from 1980-2008.
Throughout Rice's tenure as an assistant coach, he served as defensive coordinator as well as offensive and defensive line coach and spent time in charge of strength and conditioning. In addition, he served as an adjunct in the health and physical education department.
In his 28 seasons, Rice worked with six different head coaches and was part of the coaching staff that helped lead the Terriers to a Presidents' Athletic Conference Championship in 1982, and to the NCAA Division III National Championship playoffs in 1987.
In his career, he has coached 174 All-Conference selections in the PAC, the Ohio Athletic Conference and the North Coast Athletic Conference. In addition, he has coached 22 of Hiram's 24 All-American performers.
Following his retirement from Hiram, Rice stayed active in his community in Womelsdorf, Pa. As of his induction, he and his wife Carolyn volunteered their time with the local food bank, the public library, the Reading school district and multiple neighborhood organizations.
