A four-year letter winner in wrestling, Donnie was a two-time individual PAC Champion in the 134 lbs. weight class in 1980 and 1981. He was also an NCAA Division III All-American at 134 lbs. during his junior year in 1980. He served as captain for the Terriers for two seasons and was honored in 1981 for his outstanding performance as a wrestler when he was selected as a co-recipient of the Donald M. Campbell Award, given annually to Hiram's finest male athlete.

Donnie went on to attend Morehead State University in Morehead, Kentucky before teaching the Alternative Learning Program and coaching three sports at Jenkins Independent School System in Jenkins, Kentucky. From 1984-1986, he served as the National Sales Manager for National Water, Inc. before starting his own business, which he managed for the last 13 years. Selling his company in August to a Midwest manufacturing company, he has been retained as Southeastern Vice President of Operations in charge of Sales, Marketing and Business Development.

As of his induction, Browning had continued his involvement with wrestling as the assistant high school wrestling coach and as wrestling club sponsor and coach. Donnie also sponsored and coached little league baseball and roller hockey. A member of the Crossroads Community Church and the Palm City Chamber of Commerce, Donnie, Laura and their six children live in Palm City, Florida, as of his induction.
