William H. Hollinger Hall of Fame
Tony Hassett was a four-year member of the Hiram football team and was a standout defensive player. During his playing career, he was a four-time All-Presidents’ Athletic Conference award winner as well as the league defensive Player of the Year in 1981. In his final two seasons, he recorded a combined 199 tackles and 38 sacks and was a two-time Little All-American (1978 and 1981).
In addition, he served as a team captain during his senior season. During his sophomore season, Hiram posted a 6-2 record which was the best record since the 1939 season. Hassett graduated from Hiram in 1982 and pursued a career as a teacher and coach.
As of his induction, Hassett served as a special education teacher at Geneva High School and head football coach. He had coached the Eagles for the past 13 years and was named the Ashtabula County Football Coach of the Year in 2008. He was also inducted into the Ashtabula County Football Hall of Fame in 2013.
In addition, to being employed in the Geneva School District, Hassett has also taught in the Grand Valley and Perry School Districts.
