A Hiram native, David Clarke is remembered by his classmates for his 'strong performances a·s both a football and basketball player. During his three years as a member of the varsity football team, he played almost continuously on both offense and defense and was a significant factor in Hiram's upset win over Kenyon College during the 1934 season.

A member of Phi Gamma Epsilon, H-Club and the Alpha Society, Clarke studied religion and history at Hiram. Upon graduation he pursued a law degree and worked as both a lawyer and judge. Now retired, as of his induction, Clarke lived in Taylorsville, N.C., and has shown a long-term commitment to the college as an alumni representative to the Hiram Board of Trustees.
