William H. Hollinger Hall of Fame
Lawrence was a four-year member of the Terrier swim teamĀ and earned national honors at the NCAA championships byĀ finishing sixth in the 200 butterfly and 11th in the 500Ā freestyle. In addition, Wayne was a three-time All-American,11-time Presidents' Athletic Conference individual champion
and was named the team's most valuable player on threeĀ occasions.Ā Upon graduation, Wayne held eight school records; two in the butterfly events, and six in the freestyle long events and relays.
Away from the pool, Wayne was a member of the StudentĀ Senate and a resident assistant. He remembers fondly hisĀ inter-term trip to South America with Dr. Barrow.
Following graduation, Wayne went on to earn hisĀ credentials as a podiatrist and set up practice in Warren,Ā later to move to Ravenna with Portage Foot Care. Prior toĀ being seriously injured in a fall in August of 1990, WayneĀ was active as director of the Trumbull County Water SafetyĀ program and as coach of the Howland High swim team.
