A 1999 graduate of the College, Heidi (Gerhardstein) Niedermier had a very successful track and field career as a student-athlete at Hiram. While her coaches relied on her overall athletic talent to provide team depth in the relays and various field events, it was in the high jump where Niedermier truly excelled.
She competed all four years (1995-99) during the indoor and outdoor seasons and was a multi-time qualifier in both the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships and the NCAA Division III National Championships. Niedermier qualified for three NCAA national championship meets in the high jump and earned All-American honors at each meet. During the 1997 season, she set the school record in the high jump at three separate meets and ended up placing fourth in the NCAA indoor meet to earn the first of her three All-American awards. She went on to again earn All-American honors that same year during the outdoor season and to this day retains the Hiram record in the high jump.
An outstanding student in the classroom, earning a degree in Biology, Niedermier was also awarded the Helen M. Petroskey Award in 1998 which is given to the top overall Hiram College female athlete. As of her induction, Niedermier was a stay-at-home mom and resided in Bellevue, Ohio.
