Steve Fleming was a two-sport athlete (basketball and golf), excelling as a member of the Terrier basketball team. In four seasons, he received several post-season awards, including honorable mention All-Great Lakes Region and a second-team Great Lakes All-District as a senior in 1994. Steve was twice chosen first-team All-Ohio Athletic Conference and was a two-time first-team Academic All-OAC pick (1993 and 1994). Also as a senior, he was named Hiram’s “Top Male Athlete” and was an OAC Clyde A. Lamb Scholar-Athlete Award nominee.

A four-year letter winner, Steve ended his career seventh on the Hiram all-time scoring list with 1,395 points. He holds Hiram single-season and career records for assists and free throw percentage. Steve recorded 177 assists in 1992-93 and 510 over his career. He made an impressive 89 percent of his free throws as a junior and 84.9 percent over his career. Steve also earned three varsity letters in golf and was a member of the 1991 OAC championship team.

After graduation, Steve continued his involvement with basketball and returned to his alma mater in 2006 as head coach of the men’s basketball team, coaching the team for eight seasons. In his first season, Steve led his team to its first North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament appearance since 2002-03.
