Head Wrestling Coach from 1954-66, Koval compiled one of the most outstand records in the history of Hiram College, recording 124 wins against just 22 losses. Under his guidance, the 1959 wrestling team captured the school's first OAC mat title, beginning a dominance of OAC wrestling that saw the Terriers win the conference title five of the next eight years. Appropriately, his final season ended with a perfect 22-0 dual match record and an OAC title. His years at HIram also included head coaching positions in baseball, football and golf.
After serving as head wrestling and assistant football coach, as well as Director of Intramurals at Brown University, he returned to the area as a golf professional and manager of Sugar Bush Golf Course.
He has remained a wrestling official for 30 years, and has refereed NCAA, NAIA and Ohio High School championships.
