Schwartz, was named Hiram's most valuable player on the baseball team in 1960 and 1961. A member of Head Coach Bill Proverbs' first two teams, Schwartz' outstanding performances on the baseball diamond were instrumental in establishing a foundation for the success the baseball program would enjoy during Proverbs' tenure. During Schwartz' senior year, Hiram finished second in the Ohio Athletic Conference with a 9-3 record. That was the first winning season for the Terriers since the baseball program had been reinstated in 1952.
