Jeff Smith was a three-sport athlete at Hiram competing in football as well as indoor and outdoor track and field. In football, Smith was a four-year letter winner as an offensive lineman.
Following his playing career, he received a National Football Foundation Postgraduate Award. In track, Smith specialized in the shot put and was the 2000 North Coast Athletic Conference Indoor and Outdoor Champion in the event. He was also a NCAA Division III provisional qualifier that same year in both seasons, competing in the national meet during the outdoor season. At the end of the 2000 season, he was selected as the Hiram NCAC Male Scholar-Athlete.
Smith graduated from Hiram in 2000 and was a member of African-American Students United and the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). Following graduation, he went on to earn his Master’s degree from the international program at Baldwin Wallace University. Smith, as of his induction, is the Assistant Director in the Student Involvement and Activities Office at Salem State University in Salem, Massachusetts.
