William H. Hollinger Hall of Fame
A.J. White finished his career as one of Hiram’s most accomplished scorers and passers in men’s basketball history. He ranks second in minutes (2,973), third in assists (372) and third in three-pointers (175), all while being one of seven Hiram student-athletes to score 1,000 points since the turn of the century. White was a leader on and off the court since he began in 2002-03, serving as a team captain in 2004-05 and 2005-06, and earning the NCAC Scholar-Athlete Award in 2005. He was an NCAC Player of the Week and competed with the track and field team (high jump) for one season.
White led the Terriers in assists in each of his four seasons, which propelled his teammates – David Mayle, Carlton Dean III and Mike McDevitt – to also reach 1,000 points. The group was part of the program’s first seasons in the North Coast Athletic Conference, which started in 1999-2000. White credits head coach Sean McDonnell and assistant coach Earl Kissel for their influence on his development with the program and at Hiram College.
Away from the hardwood, White was a member of the school’s business club and studied abroad in Guatemala and Honduras.
White has since worked at a consulting firm as a strategic advisor for mid-market insurance companies. He currently works at Westfield Insurance. He also has a volunteering presence at the Boys & Girls Club of America, BUILD Inc. Chicago (gang intervention, violence prevention and youth development organization) and local charity events in Chicago.
