HIRAM, Ohio - February 14, 2025 - The Terriers swimming teams progressed nicely on Day 3 of the NCAC Championships on Friday, with both teams making waves in the overall standings (eighth place each).
It continues a big week for both teams, as they look to make one last mark in the program's final season as a member of the North Coast Athletic Conference.
Men's Recap
Landon Hughes qualified for the C-Final in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:30.20, placing him above swimmings from Oberlin and The College of Wooster. The senior finished the finals in 23rd place (4:32.04) to earn his team five points toward the overall standings. Joe Krosky (5:04.08) and Ethan Drake (5:40.64) joined Hughes in the C-Final of the 400-yard IM, too.
In the 100-yard breaststroke, Jon Hybil made his way to the C-Final and placed 22nd with a time that neared the program record (record is 58.83, Hybil's time was 1:00.72). Dayne Sauter did the same in the 100-yard backstroke, ranking first in the C-Final and earning his team 10 points with a time of 55.23.
One of the most entertaining results of the night came in the 200-yard freestyle relay, where the team of Sauter, David Slovenkay, Hybil and Owen Pastorius placed eighth and just .01 seconds behind seventh-place OWU (1:27.81 to 1:27.82). That Hiram team was also in striking distance of a program record (1:27.27).
Women's Recap
Madison Fleischer got the day started with a time of 2:10.97 in the 200-yard freestyle, with senior Natalie Brown joining her (2:17.47) as a pair of C-Final qualifiers in the event. Fleischer and Brown placed 22nd and 23rd respectively in the finals later in the evening to add 11 points to Hiram's overall score.
Haven Papineau had a huge day in the 100-yard backstroke, qualifying for the C-Final with a prelim time of 1:09.48. Papineau drastically improved upon that time in the final thanks to a mark of 1:06.45, a major step forward in the sophomore's collegiate career.
Wrapping up the day for the Terriers was the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Papineau, Fleischer, Grace Basham and Becca Johnston. The group – which featured one first-year, one sophomore and two juniors – placed seventh in a talented field with a mark of 1:56.75.

The final day of the NCAC Championships is on Saturday, with prelims beginning at 9:30 a.m. and finals again slated for a 6 p.m. start inside the Trumbull Aquatics Center in Granville, OH.
