Box Score 2 March 25-PITTSBURGH, Pa.- The Hiram College baseball team earned a split with Chatham University on Sunday afternoon. Hiram dropped game one, 15-1, before taking game two, 10-2.
In the first game of the day, the Terriers were off to a slow start trailing 7-0 after the first inning. The Cougars held Hiram runless until the fourth inning where Alex Gould scored Hiram's lone run of the game (12-1). Gould and PJ Suso tallied four of the seven hits.
Chatham tacked on three more runs in the remaining innings to cement their 15-1 victory.
The momentum shifted in the last game of the day as the Terriers offense fell into a rhythm. In the first inning, Hiram led 2-0 with quick work from freshman Vince Suso and sophomore
Vince Lonigro.
Looking to cut the Hiram lead the Cougars got on the board in the second inning. From there the Terriers remained scoreless for the next three innings still maintaining the 2-1 lead.
Hiram kept the offensive momentum going, tallying another two runs in the fifth inning (4-1). Lonigro singled down the right field line scoring Suso and senior
Tyler Carcioppolo.
Suso tripled to left center, earning an RBI off
Alex Perrella's run. The sixth inning action did not stop there with Alex Gould doubling to left field tallying 2 RBI's from Lonigro and Suso.
In the last inning, the Terriers finished off the game adding three more runs from
Tyler Duben, Perrella, and Carcioppolo, scoring the final runs of the game.
On the mound, junior
Justin Joyce pitched the second game earning his first win of the season. Joyce had five strikeouts allowing just one earned run in the seven innings.
The Terriers will return home on Saturday, March 31 as they face Kenyon in a conference doubleheader. The matchup with the Lords is slated for a 12:00 and 3:00 p.m. start.
