LATROBE, Pennsylvania - April 26, 2026- The Hiram Terrier baseball team traveled to Latrobe, PA on Sunday afternoon for a matchup against the Bearcats of Saint Vincent College. The Terriers dominated both games, even fending off a late comeback attempt to earn victories with scores of 8-3 and 4-3.
Hiram currently sits in 6th place in the PAC standings, holding the final spot for the No. 6 seed in the PAC Tournament. The Terriers currently hold a one-game lead over the seventh-ranked team in the conference (Chatham) and still need at least one more PAC win to guarantee a spot in the postseason. The Terriers are also only one game behind the current fourth and fifth place teams (Grove City and Bethany), with the Terriers also having the chance to move up in the standings depending on how things shape out this upcoming week. The Terriers helped their chances of securing a PAC Tournament berth with the win over Saint Vincent on Sunday afternoon.
Game 1 Recap
Both teams opened up the offense in the first game fairly late, when the Terriers struck first in the top of the third, when Logan Gallentine singled, scoring Ben Yoder and giving the Terriers the lead. That was one of three hits for Gallentine on a 3-for-5 afternoon. Saint Vincent responded in the bottom half, tying the game right back up on a sacrifice fly.
The Terriers got the lead back in the fifth, when Matthew Trimble continued his hot hitting, scoring Ethan Ryan on an RBI single. Ryan also finished with an impressive four-hit game. Saint Vincent responded with one run each in the bottom of the fifth and sixth, giving it the one-run advantage.
The Terriers went on to respond with a huge eighth inning.
The scoring in the eighth started with Brady Trem, who hit a bases-loaded single to score John Bender and Matthew Trimble, giving Hiram the lead. Trem would go on to score on his own, scoring on a wild pitch. Then, Ryan and Gallentine both stepped up and singled, adding insurance runs for Hiram. Luke Snider also recorded an RBI on a SAC bunt, which gave the Terriers the 8-3 lead, which would end up being the difference.
Starting for Hiram was Tyler Leasure, who threw 5.2 innings of work, notching five strikeouts and just two earned runs allowed over 102 pitches. Earning the win for Hiram was Braeden Kinniard, who threw 2.1 innings, giving up only one hit in an outstanding outing in the bullpen. Cody Horvath entered in the 9th, shutting down any chance for the Bearcats.
