The Oberlin defense came into play in the third. After Hiram scored four runs in their first two frames (4-1), the Yeomen held the Terriers scoreless through the remainder of the game. Oberlin would then go on to tack on 13 more runs over the final five innings to secure the win.

In addition to Gros, Alex Perrella also tallied a pair of hits, while Bryan Engdahl Mike Eversole, Vince Lonigro, Vito Petrillo and Tyler Carcioppolo each added one.

With the loss, pitcher Brandon Chesmar drops to 3-2 on the season.

The Yeomen carried their momentum into game two, out scoring Hiram 12-0 in the first six innings of the game.

Hiram got on the board in the bottom of the seventh. After Jacob Nagy singled to center, a double from John Reid followed by a single from Ty Walchanowicz scored the first run for the Terriers.
