HIRAM, Ohio -- The Hiram College baseball team came up on the short end of a pair of contests against Kenyon on Wednesday afternoon.

The Lords (16-5, 4-0 NCAC East) took the first game 3-0 and won a rain shortened second game 12-2.

In the first game, the teams were scoreless through the first four innings, before Kenyon broke through with two runs in the fifth.

The Lords added another run the sixth and hung on for the 3-0 victory.

Hiram (3-14, 0-4 NCAC East) put a runner on second base in the sixth, but were unable to score.

Freshman Justin Joyce (Fort Myers, Fla./Evangelical Christian) turned in a solid performance on the mound, going five innings and giving up just two runs. Junior Ryan Fedor (Mantua, Ohio/Crestwood) fired 1.2 innings of scoreless relief, striking out two batters.

In Game 2, Kenyon scored four runs in the top half of the first inning, thanks to a grand slam from Phillip Nam.

The Terriers countered with a run in the bottom of the first. With freshman Bryan Engdahl (San Pasqual, Calif./Escondido) on third, sophomore Phil Ward (Garfield Heights, Ohio/Garfield Heights) struck out on a pitch in the dirt. Engdahl broke for home on the throw down to first and beat the throw home to get Hiram on the board.

The Lords came right back with three runs in the second and tacked on another in the third to open an 8-1 lead.

Hiram got a run back in the third on a sacrifice fly from junior Brandon Chesmar (Elyria, Ohio/Amherst Steele) that brought home Engdahl.

But Kenyon scored four more times in the fifth to blow the game open. The Lords sent three batters to the plate in the sixth inning, before rain forced the game to be halted.

Engdahl collected both Terrier hits in the game, while coming around to score twice.

Hiram will return to action on Saturday, April 9, as they begin a four-game weekend series with Oberlin. First pitch is set for noon.
