HIRAM, Ohio -- The Hiram College baseball team erased a 5-2 deficit, only to see Westminster (Pa.) score four times in the final two innings to post a 9-5 victory over the Terriers on Wednesday.
The Titans (6-25) opened the scoring in the second inning with a run.
Hiram (6-25) would load the bases in the third inning thanks to two walks and a hit batter. Sophomore Phil Ward (Garfield Heights, Ohio/Garfield Heights) was hit by a pitch to bring home the first run and senior Trevor Foster (Warren, Ohio/Champion) followed with a sac fly to put the Terriers in front 2-1.
Westminster tied the score at 2-2 in the top of the fourth and jumped in front 5-2 in the top of the fifth, by scoring three times.
Freshman Christian Owens (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio/Woodridge) singled home junior Brandon Gros (Ravenna, Ohio/Crestwood) in the bottom of the sixth to pull the Terriers within 5-3. Freshman Austin DeGregory (Girard, Ohio/Girard) followed with a RBI single a few batters later to score sophomore Kyle Watson (Warren, Ohio/Howland) and trim the Titan lead to 5-4.
Hiram then tied the game in the bottom of the seventh as junior Brandon Chesmar (Elyria, Ohio/Amherst Steele) crossed home courtesy of a Westminster error.
But the Titans would benefit from a Hiram miscue in the eighth to score three times and tacked on another run in the ninth inning for the 9-5 win.
DeGregory went 2-for-3 with 2-RBI's and a run scored, while Foster collected two hits and also drove in a run.
Hiram will be back at it on Sunday, May 1, as they hit the road for a non-conference doubleheader at D'Youville (N.Y.). First pitch of the twin bill is set for 1 p.m.
