OBERLIN, Ohio -- The Hiram College baseball team fell twice at Oberlin in a NCAC doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon.
The Yeomen (10-11, 2-0 NCAC East) captured the first game 11-4 and won the nightcap in 11 innings by a 2-1 count.
In the first game, Oberlin was able to jump out to a 7-0 lead after three innings.
Hiram (3-17, 0-6 NCAC East) loaded the bases in the fourth inning and freshman Christian Owens (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio/Woodright) got hit by a pitch to bring home the Terriers first run. Freshman Preston Patterson (Uniontown, Ohio/Lake) followed with a RBI fielder's choice to close out the scoring in the inning.
The Yeomen would tack on four more runs to take an 11-2 lead into the seventh inning.
Hiram would plate two runs in its final at-bat of the game in the seventh, getting a solo homer from sophomore Brandon Kish (Poland, Ohio/Struthers) and a RBI single by freshman Brian Fryda (Youngstown, Ohio/Boardman).
Senior Trevor Foster (Warren, Ohio/Champion) led the Terrier offense, going 2-for-3 with a run scored.
Game 2 featured a pitchers duel on both side. For Hiram, junior Brandon Chesmar (Elyra, Ohio/Amherst Steele) went six shutout innings, giving up six hits and striking out three.
Oberlin countered with Kyle Dominy, who lasted 7.2 innings, giving up one earned run and striking out one.
The Terriers broke the scoreless tie in the eighth, as Kish drew a 2-out, bases loaded walk to give Hiram the 1-0 lead.
The Terriers held the lead until the ninth, when Justin Cruz hit a 2-out, game tying double to knot the score at 1-1 and force extra innings.
Cruz would then end the game in the 11th inning, lacing a bases loaded single to give the Yeomen a walkoff 2-1 win.
Junior Ryan Fedor (Mantua, Ohio/Crestwood) gave up just one earned run in 4.1 innings of relief.
Sophomore Phil Ward (Garfield Heights, Ohio/Garfield Heights) and freshman Zayvier Cintron (Cleveland, Ohio/Cleveland Central Catholic) each finished with two hits for Hiram.
The Terriers will be back at it on Saturday, April 16 and Sunday, April 17 with a four-game road series at Allegheny (Pa.). First pitch of both doubleheaders is set for noon.
