ALLIANCE, Ohio -- The Hiram College baseball team scored a 9-7 road non-conference win at Mount Union on Saturday afternoon.
The Terriers are now 8-24 on the season, while the Purple Raiders fall to 18-14.
Freshman Phillip Ward (Garfield Heights) paced the Terriers offense, going 3-for-5 with two RBI's.
Senior Jaren Bell (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton), senior Ron DeAmicis (Austintown/Fitch) and sophomore Eric Martin (Brookfield) each added two hits.
Hiram scored a run in the first on a RBI groundout by junior Trevor Foster (Warren/Champion).
The Purple Raiders countered with a run of their own in the first, but the Terriers came right back with a 4-run second inning to take a 5-1 lead.
Bell and Ward each had RBI hits in the inning, while senior Jeff Segal (West Bloomfield, Mich./North Farmington) had a RBI groundout. DeAmicis also crossed home on a failed pickoff attempt.
Mount Union countered with a run in the third and five more in the fourth to take a 7-5 lead.
Hiram responded with a 3-run sixth on RBI hits from Segal and Ward to regain the lead, 8-7.
The Terriers tacked on another run in the ninth when Ward touched home on a wild pitch.
Freshman Kyle Watson (Warren/Howland) fired 3.2 innings of scoreless relief to pick up his first career win.
Hiram will return to action on Sunday, with another non-conference game at cross town rival Baldwin Wallace at 1 p.m.
