UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio -- The Hiram College baseball team fell to non-conference foe John Carroll on Wednesday by a 10-6 score.

The Terriers fall to 4-11 on the season, while the Blue Streaks are 12-3.

John Carroll struck for the first three runs of the game to jump out to a 3-0 lead.

But Hiram came right back in the fifth inning, scoring two runs.

Sophomore Ty Walchanowicz (Garfield Heights) singled to lead off the inning and stole second.

Senior Jaren Bell (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) was hit by a pitch.

Walchanowicz would move to third and would also score on two separate wild pitches to get Hiram on the board.

Senior Jeff Segal (West Bloomfield, Mich./North Farmington) would single to score Bell and bring Hiram to within 3-2.

JCU came right back in the bottom half of the frame, scoring four times to take a commanding 7-2 lead.

Hiram was able to draw closer in the seventh inning.

Segal laced a RBI triple that scored Bell and cut the deficit to 7-3.

The Terriers would load the bases and senior Ron DeAmicis (Austintown/Fitch) would hit into a fielder's choice that scored a run. Freshman Kyle Watson (Warren/Howland) followed with a RBI single to make the score 7-5.

The Blue Streaks would answer with two runs in the bottom of the inning to make the score 9-5.

The Terriers would get a run back in the eighth on a RBI single from junior Trevor Foster (Warren/Champion). But JCU would put the game away with another run in the eighth.

Segal finished the game 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI's. Bell also scored two runs in the game.

Sophomore Clayton Torok (Kirtland) fired 1.1 scoreless innings, striking out two batters.

Hiram will play next on Saturday, when it opens NCAC play with a weekend series at Kenyon. The first of two games on Saturday is set to begin at noon.
