GREENVILLE, Pa. -- The Hiram College baseball team fell to non-conference foe Thiel (Pa.) by a 9-2 score on Thursday afternoon.

The Terriers are now 3-8 on the season, while the Tomcats improve to 8-1.

Hiram struck for both of its runs in the first inning.

Senior Jaren Bell (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) was hit by a pitch to lead off the game.

After the next two Terriers made outs, junior Trevor Foster (Warren/Champion) singled. Bell would move to third on a wild pitch.

Senior Mark Leone (Boardman) followed with a 2-RBI double to right to give Hiram the early 2-0 lead.

The Terriers would hold that lead until the bottom of the sixth, where Thiel would plate four runs. The Tomcats would add two more runs in the seventh and three more in the eighth.

Senior Jeff Segal (West Bloomfield, Mich./North Farmington) collected two hits to lead Hiram.

Seven pitchers saw the mound for Hiram, with freshman Jake Evanoff (Salem/West Brach) firing two scoreless innings and senior Pat Rhodes (Girard), sophomore Brandon Chesmar (Elyria/Amherst Steele) and sophomore Clayton Torok (Kirtland) all recorded one scoreless inning.

Hiram will return to action over the weekend with a four-game series at Penn State-Fayette. The Terriers will play two seven innings games on Saturday beginning at 2 p.m. and two more seven innings contests on Sunday starting at noon.
