Box Score GREENVILLE, PA. -- The Hiram College baseball team was defeated by Thiel (Pa.) College, 14-0, in a non-conference game at Tomcat Park in Greenville, Pa.
Thiel (5-4) scored runs in the first four innings, including crossing the plate four times in the bottom of the first to take the early lead. The Tomcats went on to add a run in the second, third and fourth innings to increase the margin to 7-0. Thiel scored two more runs in the bottom of the sixth and scored five more runs in the eighth to cruise to the 14-0 shutout victory.
On the mound for Hiram (5-6), sophomore Nate Weiss (Warren, Mich./University Liggett) started the game and pitched four innings allowing seven runs and had two strikeouts. He was also credited with the loss and is now 2-1 overall for the season. Sophomore Pat Rhodes (Girard) replaced Weiss and pitched three innings of relief giving up two runs while posting two strikeouts. Sophomore Tanner Gilchrist (Ellwood City, Pa./Lincoln) pitched the final inning allowing five runs on four hits.
Hiram is scheduled to play a single nine-inning game against John Carroll University on Wednesday, Mar. 20 at Cene Park in Struthers. The first pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
