HIRAM, Ohio – January 27, 2026- Aidan Shiels of men's track & field has earned the PAC Newcomer of the Week Award, as announced by the conference on Tuesday late afternoon. This honor comes after an impressive performance at the SPIRE Midwest Collegiate Open on Saturday, which earned him this award as well as a program record.Â
Shiels was outstanding on Saturday, running a new personal best as well as breaking a new Hiram record in the 800-meter race. He placed sixth overall, posting a record-breaking time of 1:57.25, breaking the old school record held by his talented teammate DeAco Curry by more than one second (1:58.38). The freshman only trailed D-I athletes from Buffalo and Canisius in his race, which led to an outstanding finish. Shiels now holds the fastest time in the PAC in the 800, as well as 11th in the entire Great Lakes Region, as he looks to carry momentum and keep his spot throughout the season. Â
Shiels and the Terriers will be back in action on Friday, when they travel to Baldwin Wallace University for the Taraschke Team Challenge.Â
