GREENVILLE, Pennsylvania – March 27, 2025 – Hiram tallied a season-high 18 hits and extended its winning streak to a season-long four games with a 14-2 route of Thiel on Thursday afternoon.
Tyler Fernandez hit for the cycle and Chaisson Marrs recorded three hits for the third time this season, while the pitching unit of Sam Boyle, Robert James, Nick Licursi and Timothy Johnson held the opposition to just four hits.
The win gets Hiram back over .500 for the season (7-6), while also providing the team just the momentum it needs heading into its NCAC-opener on Saturday at Wabash.
The Terriers scored in seven of the nine innings in the game, including three runs in the sixth and four runs in the ninth. Fernandez spearheaded the offensive outburst all game long, singling in the first inning, doubling in the fifth frame, homering in the eighth and tripling in the ninth. Not only did the final hit complete the cycle, but it also marked the first triple in Fernandez's collegiate career.
Hal Walker Jr. added an RBI triple of his own in that same ninth inning, which included four extra-base hits and extended a 10-2 lead to 14-2. Marrs, Walker Jr., Fernandez, Logan Gallentine, Ethan Ryan and Ben Yoder each had a multi-hit effort to raise Hiram's league-high batting average to .332.
The pitching was just as sharp, with Boyle having his best outing of the season to earn the win – 5 IP, 2 H, 1 R/ER, 2 BB, 4 K. James followed with two innings of one-run ball before Licursi and Johnson each worked a scoreless inning to seal the one-sided victory.
Hiram will next begin the most important part of the season on Saturday, when it travels to Crawfordsville, IN for a NCAC doubleheader against Wabash. First pitch is slated for 12 p.m. at Goodrich Ballpark.
