Men's Soccer Defeated by Mount Union With Second-Half Barrage

Four Second-Half Goals Lead the Purple Raiders to 6-1 Win Over the Terriers

Box Score Hiram,OH -- Sept. 13, 2022 -- The Hiram College Men's Soccer team displayed great resolve in the first half against a talented Mount Union team -- trailing just 2-1 at halftime -- but a second-half barrage of 15 Mount Union shots and four goals resulted in a 6-1 loss to the Purple Raiders on Henry Field at the Hiram campus on Tuesday evening.

Two early first half goals -- within the first six minutes of action --  vaulted Mount Union to a quick 2-0 lead.  Hiram battled back with a goal by junior defenseman Jack Meinert with just under five minutes remaining in the half moving Hiram to within one goal at halftime, 2-1.

But Mount Union's second half effort spoiled the Terriers' hopes of an upset.  Their domination was magnified with 15 shots compared to two for Hiram.  For the entire game, Mount Union peppered 28 shots while Hiram managed only four.  The Purple Raiders held a 9-1 bulge in shots-on-goal.  Mount Union's six goals is a season-high to date.

Mount Union forward Jamon  McCort scored three goals on eight shots, including four SOG.

The Terriers stand at 0-5 to date.  They will seek their first win of the season this Saturday afternoon, Sept. 17, when they host Franciscan at 5 PM, following the noon football game against DePauw.
