Men's Soccer Claims 3-2 Victory Over Defiance

Aug. 30 – DEFIANCE, Ohio- Three different Terriers scored, as the Hiram men's soccer team collected their first win of the season in the opening day of the Purple & Gold Classic, Friday night.   
 
The Terriers were quick to get on the board with freshman Keagan Le'Roux knocking in his first career goal off an assist from senior Brian Corbin in the first two minutes of the game.  
 
Hiram dominated the ball holding the Yellow Jackets shotless for the first twenty minutes and scoreless for the first half.  
 
In that time, freshman Vincent Rienzi and sophomore Tommy Rink each took a shot before sophomore Isaac Opoku sank his second career goal off an assist from Rink to pull Hiram ahead 2-0.  
 
Fresh out of the first half break, Rink scored the third unanswered goal stretching the Terrier lead to 3-0.  
 
In the second half, Defiance would respond with only a pair of goals cementing the 3-2 Hiram victory.  
 
In goal, sophomore Shelby Edwards made his sixth career start finishing with two saves in his 90 minutes of work.  
 
The Terriers outshot the Yellow Jackets 18-7 while holding Defiance to just four shots on goal.  
 
Hiram will take on day two of the Purple & Gold Classic on Saturday, August 31 at 3:30 with a game against Edgewood.
