Box Score Aug. 31- BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Hiram College men's soccer team opened the 2018 campaign with a 1-1 draw in a matchup against Geneva on Friday afternoon.
The Terriers were the first to get on the board with a shot to the back of the net from sophomore
Giovanni Meza. With 20:34 remaining in the first Hiram held a 1-0 lead.
With only one minute left in the first half, the Golden Tornadoes made an effort to tie the game with a shot from Alex Yoder that was blocked by the Terrier defense.
Down by one, Geneva responded in the second half with Jake Broadwick scoring with 5:31 remaining to send the game to overtime.
In the first overtime, neither team was able to capitalize on its opportunities and the game headed to a second session.
Hiram had a few chances in the second overtime session, getting two shots from seniors
Richard Milford and
Taje Davis, but it was not enough to put away the game.
The two sides remained scoreless after 110 minutes of play to finalize a 1-1 draw.
The Golden Tornadoes took a 19-8 advantage in shots, but sophomore
CJ Keith led the defense with seven saves.
Hiram will continue their tour of the Presidents Athletic Conference and travel to Grove City (Pa.) on Saturday, Sept. 1. The matchup with the Wolverines is set for 4:30 p.m.
