Men's Soccer Secures Victory off Meza's Game Winner

Oct.6- HIRAM, Ohio- A goal by sophomore Giovanni Meza proved to be the game winner as the Terrier men's soccer team secured their first victory of the season against Oberlin College (2-1) on Saturday afternoon.  
 
The matchup with Yeomen marks the fifth one-goal decision game of the year.
 
All of the scoring action happened in the first 20 minutes of the game.  
 
The Terriers were the first to get on the board with a goal in the opening five minutes.  
 
Oberlin responded minutes later with a goal from Trenton Bulucea to tie the game at 1-1. 
 
In the 17th minute, the Terriers came back with a shot from Meza that flew past the Yeomen's keeper to help Hiram re-take the advantage (2-1).  
 
The Yeomen and Terriers played to a 0-0 draw through the last 45 minutes. 
 
Hiram finished the afternoon with 10 shots and five on goal.  
 
Offensively, five different Hiram players secured at least one shot. Freshman Isaac Opoku and Meza led the group in shots, with three apiece.   
 
Defensively, the Terriers held a 6-3 advantage in saves. In goal, junior CJ Keith dominated in his 82 minutes of play tallying five saves, and his first win of the season.
 
Hiram will be back in action on Tuesday, October 9 as they host conference foe Allegheny. The matchup is slated for a 7:30 p.m. start.
