Box Score

Oct. 28 – HIRAM, Ohio – Despite scoring four unanswered and erasing a 3-0, second-half, deficit, the Hiram College men's soccer team closed out the 2017 season with a double-overtime loss to Wittenberg University on Saturday evening.

Prior to the match, nine seniors were honored as part of Senior Day celebration. The seniors included Keanu Shelton, Jonathan Ross, Kyle Watson, Christian Nshimyumuremyi, Richard Milford, Keegan Williams, Josh Lubich, Blake Easterling, and Quinn Galecki

Freshman Matthew Hecker made his season debut tonight with four saves.

The Tiger's Jacob Snowden got on the board in the fifth minute with a goal off an assist from River Banks. Five minutes later Snowden returned the favor helping Banks extend the lead 2-0.

The Terriers managed to hold off Wittenberg's offense for the remainder of the half, outshooting them 6-3 with a 2-1 advantage in corner kicks.

The Tigers opened up the second half with a goal from Jack Smith to stretch the lead to 3-0.

Wittenberg's lead was short-lived with the Terriers responding with four-straight goals in the second half, bringing the score to 4-3.

Hiram freshman Bryce Harding and senior Keegan Williams registered their first-career goals to help shrink the deficit.

Sophomore John Virag converted the next two goals of the game on penalty kicks in the 58th and 80th minute to put Hiram in the lead. The goals marked Virag's third and fourth of the season.

Wittenberg's Alberto Zaragoza tied up the game with 2:04 left on the clock, sending the game into overtime.

Junior Taje Davis fired off the only shot of the overtime period but it was not enough to end the battle sending the game into double OT.

Zagarosa proved to be the difference maker, scoring his second-straight goal as hit the back of the net off a free kick from the 25-yard line, ending the match 5-4.

The Terriers finish their season with a record of 5-12 overall and 3-6 in the North Coast Athletic Conference.
