Men's Soccer drops 2-0 loss in conference opener

WOOSTER, Ohio -- The Hiram College men's soccer team was defeated by Wooster by a score of 2-0 in their conference opener. 

The Terriers fall to 2-4-2, 0-1 NCAC on the season, while the Fighting Scots improve to 3-5-1, 1-0 NCAC. 

Both teams fired four shots in the first half, but the Fighting Scots were the only ones to score. Max Rochester found Kieffer Hessler, who scored in the 21st minute.

The Terriers outshot the Fighting Scots 9-8 in the second half, but Wooster was once again the only team to score. Hiram made a last minute effort in the 87th minute when freshman Austin Blatt (Zanesville, Ohio / John Glenn) and senior Zac Cairns (North Olmsted, Ohio / St. Edward) fired shots, but Wooster was able to block both shots.

In goal, junior Luke Wilhelm (Shaker Heights, Ohio / University School) played all the entire match and finished with six saves.    

Hiram held a 13-12 edge in shots, but Wooster held a 7-0 advantage in corner kicks. 

The Terriers return to acton on Saturday, October 1 at 7:30 p.m. when they face Denison at home.
