ERIE, Pa. -- The Hiram College men's soccer team got the 2016 season off to a strong start with a 3-0 win over Baldwin Wallace at the Herb Lauffer Memorial Tournament hosted by Penn State-Behrend.

The Terriers (1-0-0) advance to the championship game of the tournament and will take on Houghton (N.Y.) at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 3.

The two teams nearly played a scoreless first half, but freshman Tyler Helderman (Tallmadge, Ohio/Tallmadge) broke the scoreless tie with just a minute left in the frame on an unassisted goal.

Hiram would put the game away late, scoring two goals just 25 seconds apart.

First, senior Vaal Ngalla (Pickerington, Ohio/St. Charles Prep) took a pass from senior Jake Pastore (Canton, Ohio/GlenOak) and beat the goalie to the far right post to make the score 2-0 at the 80:35 mark.

Moments later, junior Quinn Galecki (Lancaster, Ohio/Lancaster) put an exclamation point on the victory, scoring an unassisted goal.

Junior Luke Wilhelm (Shaker Heights, Ohio/University Heights) stopped all three Baldwin Wallace (0-1-0) shots on goal for his first clean slate of the season.

The Terriers held a slight 10-8 edge in shots, but posted a decisive 8-3 advantage in shots on goal.
