MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Hiram men's soccer team defeated Thiel (Pa.) 4-1 in the second day of the NCAC/PAC Challenge.
The Terriers improve to 2-2-0 on the season and the Tomcats fall to a 1-2-1 record.
Senior Santiago Montano (The Woodlands, Tex. / The Woodlands College Park) put the Terriers on the board first when he scored within the first five minutes of the game. Montano finished the match with three shots on goal.
About twenty minutes later, senior Neil Zook (Doylestown, Ohio / Chippewa) added to the Hiram lead found the back of the net with an assist from senior Zac Cairns (North Olmsted, Ohio / St. Edward), making the score 2-0.
At the 30th minute, Cairns scored his first goal of the night. The Terriers went into halftime with a 3-0 lead.
The Tomcats finally made it on the board in the 57th minute when Daniel Patrice found the back of the net.
But the Terriers answered less than a minute later when Cairns took a pass from senior Vaal Ngalla (Columbus, Ohio/St. Charles Prep) and scored his second goal of the match to solidify Hiram's 4-1 victory.
In goal, junior Luke Wilhelm (Shaker Heights, Ohio / University School) played the first 70 minutes of the match and finished with one save. Freshman C.J. Keith (Burbank, Ohio / Norwayne) made his collegiate debut to finish the match. He also made one save.
Hiram posted a 25-7 advantage in shots and a 7-1 edge in corner kicks.
The Terriers return to action on Wednesday, September 14 when they take on Case Western at 7:30 p.m. for their home opener.
