HIRAM, Ohio -- Junior Zac Cairns (North Olmsted, Ohio/St. Edward) accounted for all three of Hiram's goals, as the men's soccer squad defeated Franciscan 3-0 on Tuesday night.
The Terriers are now 2-1-1 on the season, while the Barons drop to 1-2-0.
Cairns wasted no time getting Hiram on the board, taking a pass from junior Vaal Ngalla (Pickerington, Ohio/St. Charles Prep) and finding the back of the net just 5:57 into the match. The assist was Ngalla's team leading third of the season.
Hiram was unable to score again in the half, despite firing 12 shots.
In the second half, Cairns added two more goals in a span of 2:24.
First, he took a cross from sophomore Quinn Galecki (Lancaster, Ohio) and beat the goalie at the 55:16 mark.
He followed that at the 57:40 mark, lobbing a shot over the head of the drawn out goalkeeper to put the game away.
The Terrier defense was tough all night, not allowing Franciscan to take any shots. Both senior Matt Sacher (Akron, Ohio/Coventry) and junior Chris Lindemeyer (Lodi, Ohio/Cloverleaf) combined for the shutout in goal.
Hiram also dominated in corner kicks, taking five to the Barons one.
The Terriers will begin a four game road trip on Saturday at Heidelberg. The contest is slated to begin at 2 p.m.
