ERIE, Pa. -- The Hiram College men's soccer team defeated Baldwin Wallace 3-1 for its first win of the 2015 season at the Herb Lauffer Memorial Tournament hosted by Penn State-Behrend on Sunday afternoon.
The Terriers are now 1-1-1 on the season, while the Yellow Jackets are 1-2-0.
Hiram wasted no time getting on the board, scoring a goal just 5:23 into the contest. Junior Vaal Ngalla (Pickerington, Ohio/St. Charles Prep) sent in a corner kick that senior Richie Webb (London, England/Laude Lady Elizabeth School) shot into the net.
The Terriers were able to maintain their lead throughout the first half and took a 1-0 lead into the break.
In the second half, senior Tanner Mathews (Alliance, Ohio/Marlington) converted a penalty shot to give Hiram a 2-0 advantage.
BW would get on the board at the 68:29 mark, when Craig Wallace found the back of the net.
But Hiram would put the game away with just over three minutes to play. Ngalla sent a cross into the box and sophomore Brian Burrows (Hudson, Ohio) conveted on a sliding shot that got past the goalkeeper to put the game away.
Senior goalie Matt Sacher (Akron, Ohio/Coventry) made a save and did not allow a goal in a half of action, while picking up his first win of the season.
Baldwin Wallace held a 13-11 edge in shots, but Hiram took four corner kicks, compared to three for the Yellow Jackets.
The Terriers will be back in action on Tuesday as they host Franciscan in a non-conference matchup at 7:30 p.m.
